Former Michigan Wolverine edge defender Aiden Hutchinson was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the No. 2 pick Thursday night in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Hutchinson was a nightmare for opposing offenses coming off the edge during his three-year career at Michigan. He led Michigan to its first victory over Ohio State and B1G title in over a decade. Hutchinson was a consensus All-American as well as a Heisman runner-up.Â
He finished his career with the Wolverines posting a stat line of 155 total tackles and 18.5 sacks. Â
Hutchinson will provide an immediate boost to the Lions’ defense that has been starving for playmakers. He possesses great size, length, and athleticism, making him nearly impossible to block. Hutchinson’s greatest asset is his versatility, as he can fit in any defensive scheme.Â
Aiden’s father, Chris Hutchinson, was an All-American at the University of Michigan under legendary coach Bo Schembechler.Â
The 6-foot-6, 260-pound defensive end played his high school ball in Plymouth, Michigan, and was rated as a 4-star prospect in the 2018 class.
