Team defense helps Red Raiders advance to the Sweet-16 for the third time in five years.
SAN DIEGO – Texas Tech continues dancing as they beat Notre Dame, 59-53, Sunday evening at Viejas Arena.
We all know the mantra “Defense Wins Championships,” and Texas Tech looks like a future champion.
The luck of the Irish ran out at the 54-second mark. Marcus Santos-Silva made the game-winning block that solidified Texas Tech’s trip to the Sweet-16.
The glue of this Texas Tech team is their culture. They are gearing up for a potential championship run built on unselfishness and lockdown defense.
The Red Raiders collected 8 steals, 4 blocks, and forced the Irish into 11 total turnovers.
Transfer Kevin Obanor recorded a 15 point and 15 rebound double-double. Forward Bryson Williams and guard Kevin McCular contributed fourteen points apiece to give the Texas Tech enough offensive firepower to advance to the next round.
This game was close throughout, with no team taking control until the last minute of the second half. Ultimately the Red Raiders took home the victory.
The Red Raiders will face Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils in the Sweet-16.
Tech will need another solid defensive performance if they hope to see their championship aspirations stay alive.
